A Makeup Artist’s Guide to Flawless Makeup on Oily Skin

Flawless Makeup on Oily Skin

Hi everyone, I’m Priya Chavan. Let me guess – you’ve spent ages perfecting your makeup, only to look in the mirror at lunchtime and see a shiny, greasy reflection staring back. Your foundation has started to separate, and you feel like you need to start all over again.

Trust me, you are not alone! As a professional makeup artist, this is the biggest frustration I hear about. From my clients who want to look their best for a big day to the students at my training centers, which people say is the best academy in Satara and Pune, everyone wants to know the secret to shine-free makeup.
I’m going to share all my secrets with you. Forget the complicated tutorials. Let's just talk, human to human, about how to get your makeup to look amazing and actually stay that way all day.

First Things First: Your Skin Prep

Before you even think about picking up a foundation brush, we need to talk about what’s happening underneath. Getting your skin ready is the real game-changer.

  1. Wash Your Face (The Right Way): Don't attack your skin with a harsh cleanser! That just strips it of its natural oils, which makes your skin panic and produce even more oil to compensate. Instead, use a gentle, foaming wash.
  2. Don't Skip Moisturizer! :I know, it sounds crazy to add moisture to oily skin, but this is the most important secret. When your skin is thirsty, it drinks up water. If there’s none, it produces oil instead. A light, gel-based moisturizer that’s "oil-free" gives your skin the drink of water it needs, so it can relax and stop producing so much oil. This simple moisturizer before makeup for oily skin step is magic.

My Step-by-Step Routine for Makeup That Lasts

This is my go-to process for a flawless, sweat-proof makeup for oily skin look.

A Few More Secrets I've Learned...

"But Priya, can I still get a dewy, glowing look?"
A lot of my clients ask this! And the answer is yes! Just don't use a shimmery foundation all over your face. Use your matte foundation, and then just tap a little bit of a liquid highlighter on the very tops of your cheekbones and maybe your brow bone. This way, you control the glow, so it looks intentional and not greasy.

"What about for a really special day?"
For weddings or big events, you could look into airbrush makeup for oily skin. It’s a technique I use often as a professional makeup artist. It creates a very fine, even layer on the skin that is incredibly durable and photographs beautifully. It's one of the reasons clients tell me I'm the best makeup artist in Satara—the results speak for themselves!

"Does this change in the winter?"
Great question! Your winter makeup for oily skin might be a little different. If your skin feels less oily in the colder months, you can use a little less powder. The key is to always pay attention to what your skin is telling you.

Products I Actually Use and Recommend

I’ve tried hundreds of products over the years. These are the ones I trust for my clients and recommend to the students at the best academy in satara.

So there you have it. Having oily skin doesn’t mean you’re doomed to a makeup meltdown. It’s all about knowing these few simple tricks. I really hope this helps you feel more confident and beautiful.
